Our volunteers are a vital part of our team
Volunteering allows all of us to improve the lives of others, even in a small way. The volunteers at Phelps are service oriented, giving their valuable time to help our patients, visitors and staff. They contribute services, supporting our staff to make our hospital more caring and comfortable for our patients. Our volunteers are an integral part of the team.
Would you like to give back to your community by becoming a volunteer at Phelps? We have flexible scheduling options and a variety of services for you to choose from based on your interests. Some of the services performed by our volunteers are administrative support, retail roles (gift shop and Cherry Door Thrift Shop), child day care (for volunteers age 18 and over), and patient support.
Please submit an application and we will invite you to an overview of the program. After completing the application process, you will have an individual meeting with the volunteer staff to choose a volunteer role based on your interest. The application process requires a complete medical clearance, and a background check for volunteers 18 and over. After accepting a volunteer role, you will receive a uniform shirt, ID badge, complimentary snacks and an invitation to our annual recognition luncheon to thank all of our volunteers.
Junior volunteers
Are you under 18? Become a junior volunteer! Our volunteer program is invaluable for students with community service requirements, who are considering medical careers, or who just want to help people. Volunteering is a great addition to your resume, and is great way to make friends.
To be a junior volunteer you must be 16 years of age or older, have working papers, and be able to commit to one shift of 3-4 hours weekly. You will need to fill out an application and undergo an interview and medical clearance.
We accept applications year-round. Phelps considers all junior volunteer applications regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender or disability.

Hospital Auxiliary
Our hospital Auxiliary is a volunteer organization consisting of nearly 400 members, dedicated to providing volunteer services and fundraising efforts so that we may continue to serve our community.
The Auxiliary was established in 1955 and has since raised $4 million to support Phelps Hospital, including $500,000 for Mammography and $500,000 for the Emergency Department. With their valuable support, we have also managed to renovate our mental health facility, buy operating equipment, build our Emergency Department’s PromptCare facility, and finance other improvements to our hospital.
